New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - After a disappointing 4-3 loss earlier in the day during the completion of Saturday's fogged-suspended game against Ottawa, the Jackals pulled away 3-0 in the finale of the four game series, earning a split.

Once again the Jackals pitching was at the forefront of another victory. Gabriel Perez, making his fifth start of the year was excellent for New Jersey. The right-hander tossed six and two-thirds scoreless, scattering eight hits, while walking one and striking out four.

Perez ran into some early trouble, when he gave up back-to-back base hits to Roberto Ramirez and Sebastian Boucher, before getting Mike Schwartz to fly out to left, and struck out Jon Talley on a 3-2 pitch to get out of the first.

Perez would soon settle down as he retired the side in both the third and fifth innings to keep New Jersey on top.

The Jackals gave Perez more than enough run support. Jamal Austin in Justin Trapp on a sac fly to right to push across the first Jackals run of the day. Then in the third inning, Mark Threlkeld launched his third homer of the year to left to make it 2-0 Jackals. New Jersey tacked on some insurance on a RBI double by Leandro Castro.

The biggest inning of the night, however, belonged to Donnie Joseph who struck out Talley with the bases loaded and two out to keep the Jackals up 3-0.

Hector Nelo earned his 7th save of the year in the ninth to move New Jersey to 13-12 on the season.

UPDATE: the Jackals dropped the first game of this mini double-header 4-3. Talley delivered with the bases loaded again when he grounded into a run scoring double play to put Ottawa up for good. The combination Joseph Blanco and Alex DeRatt was too much for New Jersey, as the duo combined to give up only 1 hit over the final three innings of play.

The Jackals will host the Kansas City T-Bones on Monday night, the first of a three game interleague series at Yogi Berra Stadium. The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, N.J.
