New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ The New Jersey Jackals won their final game at Yogi Berra Stadium during the regular season, by the final score of 5-4 over Nashua.

A two out base hit in the bottom of the first helped the Jackals hit the scoreboard. Following a walk issued to Wilton Veras, John Lindsey blooped a double down the right field line, allowing him to touch home plate.

New Jersey and Nashua exchanged single runs in the fourth. The Pride tied the score in the top of the fourth on an Andy Dillard solo homerun to lead off the frame. New Jersey got the back as Alex Fernandez led off the bottom of the inning with a solo blast of his own. After four innings, the Jackals had a 2-1 lead.

Fernandez struck again in the fifth with a two RBI double, extending the Jackal lead to three. But in the next half innings, the Pride got a run back on a Tom Creighton sacrifice fly. It brought Nashua within two, with the score at 4-2.

A bases loaded walk issued by reliever Vince Davis to Bill Peavey, with the bases loaded, scored the fifth New Jersey run of the evening.

Down 5-2 entering the ninth, the Pride made the Jackals sweat. A two RBI single by Larry Bethea closed the gap to one, but reliever Joe Orloski closed the door effectively.

The win went to Mike Vicaro. He last five strong innings, while allowing just two earned runs on four hits, while walking six, and striking out eight. It was his first win in professional baseball.

Mark Hamilton suffered the loss for the Pride. He was touched up for four earned runs in six innings. He surrendered seven hits, and three walks, while striking out six.
