Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals increased their American East Division lead to eight points on Sunday with a 6-3 victory over the Reading Royals at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. The Jackals, who did not trail in the game, had six different players score goals in the victory.
The Jackals started the scoring with a pair of power-play goals in the first period. At 6:19, Olivier Proulx knocked in a puck off a rebound from a Tyler Donati shot to make it 1-0, with Justin Donati receiving the second assist. Justin Donati then sent in a rebound off a shot at 8:53 for the 2-0 lead.
Andrew Sarauer cut that lead in half at 5:16 of the second period, taking a backdoor feed from Aaron Brocklehurst to make it 2-1 Jackals.
Brendan Connolly scored his first goal since coming off a month-long stint on the injured reserve at 12:54, gaining the puck in the neutral zone and skating into the right wing circle and beating goaltender Matt Dalton under his right arm, giving the Jackals a 3-1 lead.
In the third period, Matt Lowry fed Keegan Dansereau in the left circle, as Dansereau knocked in his first goal since he recorded a hat trick on Jan. 31 at 3:54 to give the Jackals a 4-1 advantage.
After a Brocklehurst goal at 7:43, Brennan Turner notched his sixth goal of the season, breaking in on a two-on-one with Lowry and firing the puck past Dalton to give Elmira a 5-2 lead.
Steven Kaunisto scored his first professional goal short handed at 14:31 to make it 5-3, but Wes Cunningham, sent a backhand 3/4 of the ice into an empty net for a Jackals short-handed goal at 19:30 to seal the win for the Jackals and making it 6-3.
Elmira has now won four-straight games against Reading dating back to Feb. 6 and has won eight-consecutive road games.
Andy Chiodo made 29 saves on 32 Royals shots, improving to 7-3-1-0. Dalton fell to 18-19-0-2, stopping 31 of 36 shots.
Elmira improved to 34-21-4-2 while Reading's record dropped to 31-27-1-3.
