New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ -The sizzling bats of the Jackals led them to yet another series victory Wednesday with an 11-3 win over the Brockton Rox at Yogi Berra Stadium.
In front of 4,339 fans, the sixth sellout of the season, the Jackals rapped out 17 hits, including at least one for every starter, to run their total to 27 runs and 41 hits in the past two games. The home side closed out the first half with a record of 25-21, including a 14-5 record since June 24.
The top of the order once again powered the Jackals, with the first four in the lineup supplying 10 hits, eight runs scored and five RBI. Leading the way was Ricardo Cordova, who was 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI.
It was the Rox getting on the board first however, putting up one run to start the game on a Guye Senjem sacrifice fly. The lead would not last though, as Elvis Corporan and Joe Jiannetti both hit RBI singles to put the Jackals ahead 2-1.
The Rox answered back with one of their own in the top half of the second, but from then on out it was all Jackals. Steve Checksfield led off the bottom of the inning with his sixth homerun of the season, and RBI knocks from Chris Rowan, Cordova and John Lindsey proved to be all the pitching staff would need.
Reliever James Mondesir was given his first start of the season for the Jackals, going three innings and allowing two runs. Joel Bennett picked up the victory in relief, improving to 4-0 on the year.
Manny Tejada lasted only three and a third for the visitors, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits in suffering the loss.
Smithlin finished his tremendous first half in style, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The centerfielder finished the first half with a .385 average, 75 hits and 49 runs scored in 46 games.
