North Shore Spirit News Release

Yuri Sanchez scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth to give the North Shore Spirit a 7-6 come from behind win over the Elmira Pioneers Wednesday afternoon.

The win means North Shore finishes the first half of the season with a record of 28-18, good for second place in the North Division.

Ryan McCally (1-1) picked up the win in relief, despite blowing the save. Chris Roque (1-5) suffered the loss for the Pioneers.

Elmira opened the scoring in the second. Jeremy Booth led-off with a single and moved to second on a basehit by Derek Barrows. Felix Bladimir got the Pioneers on the board with a double that plated both runners.

North Shore cut into the deficit with single runs in the fourth and fifth, highlighted by a Garrett Weir sacrifice fly. The Pioneers got one of the runs back in the sixth thanks to a solo shot from Booth, his first long ball of the season.

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Spirit rallied to tie the game with three unearned runs. Marcos Agramonte picked up an RBI with a two out triple to the gap in right center. Two batters later, Vic Davilla drove home Agramonte with a line drive basehit to right. The comeback was complete when Brian Macchi's chopper was booted by Bladimir at third, allowing Rob Fischer to cross the plate with the game tying run.

Local product Brian Lentz gave North Shore their first lead of the day in the bottom of the seventh. Lentz crushed a Chris Roque offering to the opposite field for his first homerun in a Spirit uniform.

Spirit closer Ryan McCally couldn't hold the lead in the ninth. Pinch hitter Jobu Morita's RBI single knotted the game at six and sent the contest into extra innings.

In the tenth, Yuri Sanchez got things started with a leadoff walk. A Marcos Agramonte sacrifice and a Rob Fischer fly ball put Sanchez on third with two outs. With the count 0-2 on Macchi, Roque uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Sanchez to scamper home with the game-winning run.

The Spirit will host the Brockton Rox Friday night at 7:05PM.
