
Jackals fall to Quebec despite Jiannetti heroics

Little Falls, NJ The Quebec Les Capitales fought through a valiant New Jersey Jackals comeback, to defeat them 6-5 in 11 innings.
Quebec scored three runs on New Jersey's Joe Orloski in the bottom of the second inning. TJ Shimizu tallied a sacrifice fly, and Buck McNabb drove in two on a single during the inning.
The Jackals didn't put up a run until the top of the fourth, off Marty Janzen. John Lindsey belted a two run blast to left-center field, cutting the Quebec lead to 3-2 with one swing of the bat. But in the bottom half of the fourth, Les Capitales got one of the runs back on a Lee Delfino solo homerun. Through four innings, Quebec led 4-2.
In the sixth, the Jackals managed to score only one run after loading the bases against Janzen with no one out. The run crossed on a wild pitch. In the Quebec half of the inning, McNabb singled home his third run of the ballgame, once gain making it a two run lead, 5-3.
New Jersey forged a comeback in the top of the ninth, capped off by a heroic two-run homerun off the bat of Joe Jiannetti, when he was down to his last strike. The bomb helped send the ballgame into extra frames.
But in the bottom eleventh, Lee Delfino singled to lead off the inning, followed by Benoit Emond reaching on a botched double play attempt by Chris Rowan, and a bunt single by Buck McNabb. With the bases loaded and no one out, Geofrey Tomlinson lifted a fly ball to center field, which was caught by Zack Smithlin, but was hit deep enough to allow Delfino to score and win the ballgame.
Marty Janzen went a solid seven innigs for Quebec. He allowed three earned runs, while scattering 10 hits, walking one, and fanning one. Joe Orloski lasted eight innings for the Jackals. He surrendered five runs, for earned, while giving up 11 hits, walking two, and striking out seven. The loss went to Evan Neiser in relief, and the win went to Jason Benson.
