Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals fell to the Wheeling Nailers in overtime, 3-2, on Friday night at First Arena. Justin Donati scored his first two goals of the year as the Jackals garnered a point for the third-straight game to open the season.

Donati's first of the season came on a two-on-one with Yannick Tifu at 8:06 of the first period. Kevin DeVergilio fed Yannick Tifu coming out of the penalty box, springing Tifu on a two-on-one with Donati. Tifu fed Donati in the right circle who beat Nailers goaltender Patrick Killeen glove side to give Elmira a 1-0 advantage.

At 13:09 of the second period, David Marshall scored short handed on a breakaway to give Wheeling its first goal of the game, tying the contest at 1-1.

Marshall's second goal of the game gave the Nailers their first lead of the night at 10:43 of the third period. Darryl Smith fed Marshall on an odd-man rush and Marshall's wrist shot beat Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau high glove to make it 2-1 in favor of Wheeling.

Just 22 seconds later, Donati's second of the game tied the score. Brennan Turner's wrist shot from the left point was tipped by Donati past Killeen to make it 2-2 at 11:05 of the third period.

The Jackals killed off a penalty extending from the third period into overtime, but Andrew Orpik's goal at 1:26 of the extra session gave the Nailers the victory.

Cousineau 20 saves on 23 shots in the loss. Killeen earned his second win of the season with 32 saves on 34 Jackals shots.

The Jackals head to Reading to take on the Royals, with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m. at the Sovereign Center on Saturday. Elmira returns home on Saturday, Oct. 30, hosting the Gwinnett Gladiators.
