Goaltender Travis Yonkman Signs with Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, and head coach Matt Thomas announced today the team has signed unrestricted free agent goaltender Travis Yonkman. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Additionally, the Thunder also announced the following transactions:
(G) Jason Lindner - released as emergency backup goaltender
(F) Jordan Foreman - activated off injured reserve
(D) Trevor Hunt - transferred to seven-day injured reserve
Yonkman, 22, will be available to suit up when the Thunder return to play tonight at 7:30 p.m. (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com) when they host the Ontario Reign at Stockton Arena.
He helped guide the University of Alberta (CWUAA) to the Cavendish University Cup title game last season and was 12-2-0 with a .910 save percentage, 2.63 goals-against-average and one shutout, winning his first ten appearances.
The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan spent all four years (2005-09) of his junior career in the Western Hockey League with the Swift Current Broncos, suitin g up in 147 games while going 70-49-10 with a .900 save percentage, seven shutouts and a 2.99 GAA.
He posted a career-high 3 shutouts, 31 wins, 57 games and .909 save percentage in 2007-08.
The 6-foot-1, 187-pound goaltender was originally signed by the Alaska Aces as a free agent before the 2010-11 season but did not play.
A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10.
