New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ The New Jersey Jackals dropped the rubber match of their three game series against the New Haven County Cutters, 4-1. The Jackals enter the All-Star break at 1-2, while the Cutters improve to 2-1.
New Jersey starter Joel Bennett and New Haven pitcher Rolando Valles matched each other pitch for pitch for the first five innings, overmatching the opposing offenses.
In the top of the sixth, Joe Jiannetti crossed home when Steve Checksfield reached on a error. But the Cutters would be more impressive in the bottom half of the inning. All with two outs, New Haven scored four runs against Bennett. Chas Terni and Carlos Brackley has RBI singles, and Nick Hiter drove in a pair with a double. The four-spot was all New Haven needed to top the Jackals, as they couldn't gain any consistency.
The win was awarded to Rolando Valles. He went eight innings, scattered eight hits, and allowed one run, which was not earned. He also walked one and struck out six. Joel Bennett suffered his first loss of 2005, and Mark Comoli closed out the ballgame in the ninth for the save. Bennett lasted seven innings for New Jersey, surrendering four earned runs on nine hits.
