North Shore Spirit News Release
The Brockton Rox completed a three game sweep of the North Shore Spirit Sunday afternoon with an 8-4 extra inning victory.
Eddie Aucoin (1-0) pitched four solid innings out of the Rox bullpen to pick up the win. Alex Herrera was saddled with his first defeat in a Spirit uniform.
North Shore jumped out to the early lead in the third. Garrett Weir got things started with single and moved to third on a basehit by Steven Carter. Shortstop Yuri Sanchez picked up an RBI with a groundout that allowed Weir to score the games first run.
Brockton finally broke through against Mullis in the fifth. Andrew Salvo's sacrifice fly plated Jake Daubert with the game-tying run.
The Rox grabbed the lead an inning later. An RBI single by Eugene Julien highlighted an inning that saw Brockton score three times and knock Mullis from the game.
Trailing 4-1, the Spirit pushed across a pair in the sixth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Alex Trezza delivered an RBI basehit to right. Brain Macchi followed with a run scoring single of his own, cutting the deficit to one run.
In the eighth, North Shore tied things up thanks to the speed of Marcos Agramonte. Agramonte led-off with a single and then proceeded to swipe second base, his 15th theft of the season. The next batter, Rob Fischer, hit a chopper into the hole between first and second. A hustling Agramonte scored all the way from second, narrowly avoiding a Brian Jones tag at the plate.
The two teams traded zeros until the eleventh. In the extra frame, Brockton strung together four two outs hits against Herrera and when the dust had settled the Rox held an 8-4 advantage.
The Spirit will take a short three day All-Star break and then hit the road for a four game series against the New Jersey Jackals on Thursday.
