July 17, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

NEW HAVEN 4, NEW JERSEY 1 @ West Haven, Conn. Time: 2:33 ATT: 1,130 W: Rolando Valles (3-4) L: Joel Bennett (4-1) S: Mark Comolli (3) HR: None New Haven got back on track today, using a superb outing from P Rolando Valles and a miraculous sixth inning outburst to beat New Jersey 4-1. Valles pitched well, spreading out eight hits and one walk over eight innings, yielding one unearned run, due mostly to an outstanding individual effort from New Jersey 3B Joe Jiannetti. Jiannetti picked up an infield hit, stole second and third base during the same at-bat, and eventually scored on an error for the Jackals' only run of the game. The Cutters' run support all came with two outs in the sixth, as SS Chas Terni and 3B Carlos Brackley each singled in runs, followed by C Nick Hiter's two-RBI double to finish off the scoring. After the sixth it was more of the same, as both team's pitchers continued to shut down the other team's batters, with Valles and closer Mark Comolli earning the win and save, respectively. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- BROCKTON 8, NORTH SHORE 4 11 innings @ Lynn, Mass. Time: ATT: W: Eddie Aucoin (1-0) L: Alex Herrera (4-1) S: None HR: None Very seldom is an extra inning game decided by more than a single run, today 's game was one of the rare few, with the Rox piecing together hit after hit in the eleventh inning to drop four runs on North Shore, putting the game out of reach of the sputtering North Shore offense. The Spirit took a 1-0 lead in the third, only to watch the Rox put up four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to sit comfortably ahead 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Rox would answer in the bottom half with their own modest rally, plating two runs on back-to-back RBI singles to pull within a run, which they would get in the eighth courtesy of Marcos Agramonte, as he picked up his third hit of the game and scored his second run on a CF Rob Fischer RBI single. However, the heroics of Agramonte and the Spirit would be overshadowed by the Rox in the eleventh, as 3B Jake Daubert capped a deceptively great game, scoring his third run of the day to finish 2-4 from the plate with three runs scored and two stolen bases for Brockton. The Rox ' late rally was fueled by Daubert, CF Matt Cucurullo's RBI double, and SS Saul Bustos' third hit of the day, an RBI single. The win brings previously-struggling Brockton into a tie for first place in the North Division with Quebec.
