New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The Jackals matchup on Wednesday against the American Defenders of New Hampshire remained close the entire game, with pitcher Adam Piechowski (3-2) picking up the win for the Defenders in a tight 8-7 ballgame.
With bases loaded and no outs for New Hampshire in the eighth and Romas Hicks pitching for New Jersey, a walk to Edward Ovalle brought the Defenders within one run of the Jackals lead at 5-4. An error by shortstop Mike DeJesus cost the Jackals two more runs and put New Hampshire ahead 6-5.
Down by one, the Jackals bats heated up as they took the lead on an RBI double by Mike Scanzano. Marcus Sanders followed with a bunt to score Scanzano and put New Jersey back on top 7-6.
But the game fell apart for the Jackals in the ninth inning as closer Rusty Tucker uncharacteristically issued walks to four consecutive batters to tie the score at 7-7. A sacrifice fly for New Hampshire's Chris Kelly drove in the winning run, leaving Tucker (2-2) with the loss in the 8-7 New Hampshire win.
The Jackals claimed an early lead in the first inning off pitcher Francisco Cervantes when an RBI double from Ryan Rogowski and an RBI ground ball from Myron Leslie gave New Jersey a 2-0 lead over New Hampshire.
After the Defenders tied the game in the second inning off pitcher A.J. Wideman, the score remained stagnant until the top of the sixth inning when an RBI single from New Hampshire's Jabe Bergeron put the Defenders ahead 3-2.
But the Jackals rallied back in the seventh inning to regain the lead. With Cooper Brannan pitching in relief for New Hampshire, DeJesus smacked a two-run RBI single to push New Jersey ahead 4-3. A double by Matt Lauderdale sent home DeJesus and gave the Jackals a 5-3 lead over New Hampshire.
The Jackals will take on the American Defenders of New Hampshire tomorrow at Yogi Berra Stadium at 7:05pm. Joey Whelan will have the live call of the game at www.Jackals.com with the pre-game show starting 10 minutes prior.
