Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Jackals defenseman Nick Schaus broke a 1-1 tie late in the third period while Dustin Gazley added an empty netter to give the Elmira Jackals (29-17-2-2) a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones (22-18-1-6) in front of 2,374 at U.S. Bank Arena on Thursday night.
Garrett Wilson gave the Cyclones a lead at 15:14 of the opening stanza as he buried a rebound past Jackals goaltender Brian Stewart (W, 24 saves, 17-9-1-0), making it 1-0. However, just 43 seconds later, Aretem Demkov picked up a rebound of his own in the Cincinnati slot and sent a wrist shot under Cyclones goalie Brian Foster (L, 28 saves, 8-3-0-1) to knot the score at one through 20 minutes.
After a scoreless second period, Nick Schaus earned the break-even goal by tipping in Dustin Gazley's shot for the eventual game-winning strike at 17:22. In the final minutes, Cincinnati pulled Foster in hopes of rallying to tie it; however, Gazley caught an outlet pass from Corey Cowick and hit the empty net, sealing a 3-1 victory for the Jackals.
Cincinnati was 0-for-3 on the power play but successfully killed off all six of the Jackals man advantages.
