Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, Mass. - The New Jersey Jackals (20-11) completed a three game sweep Sunday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium, topping the Brockton Rox (15-14) 4-0 behind a bounce-back performance from A.J. Wideman.

Wideman (1-2) picked up his first win of the season throwing five and 2/3 shutout innings, while walking two and striking out one.

The former Can-Am League Pitcher of the Year also received stellar relief efforts from Mike Petrowski, Jared Locke and Steve Fox to preserve the shutout and the seventh straight victory for New Jersey. The Trio of relievers combined for three and 1/3 scoreless frames, scattering four hits while walking and striking out one.

Brockton made one last gasp, loading the bases in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate, but came up empty as Mike Torres grounded out to end the ballgame.

Mike Smith (3-3) pitched well in the loss, lasting into the eighth inning, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking two.

Chris Anderson first got the Jackals on the scoreboard with a leadoff homer in the third inning. Jeremy Slayton added an RBI single in the sixth and New Jersey tacked on two more runs on sacrifice flies in the eighth and ninth innings.

Myron Leslie went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases, leading the way offensively for the Jackals.

Keith Brachold went 2-for-4 in the loss, adding to his tally of eight multi-hit games in his last twelve.

The shutout is just the second against Brockton this season, the other coming in a 5-0 loss to Quebec City.

The Rox take Monday off before returning to action Tuesday night against the New York Federals with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
