Newark Bears News Release

QUEBEC, Canada - Sebastien Boucher had four hits, including a key hit in the eighth inning, leading the Quebec Capitales to a 6-5 win over the Newark Bears, completing a three-game weekend series sweep in the process.

The Can-Am League-leading Capitales improved to 23-6 overall and now lead the Bears (16-14) by 7 1/2 games in the league standings.

The Capitales broke a 5-5 tie with a run off Bears reliever T.J. Hose (0-1) in the bottom of the eighth. Jeff Helps led off the inning with a single off Hose and moved to third on a single by Boucher. Helps, who scored three times, then scored the game-winning run on an infield groundout to pitcher Hose by Rene Leveret.

The rally enabled Dexter Bobo (3-0) to gain the victory. T.J. Stanton pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his fifth save.

The Bears got a two-run homer from Danny Santiesteban in the fourth inning and a two-run blast from Daryle Ward in the sixth, highlighting a three-run rally that gave Newark a brief 5-4 lead. It was the fourth homer of the season for both Bears sluggers. Tim Raines, Jr. also plated a run in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice.

But Quebec tied the game in the home sixth and won the game with the run in the eighth.

Santiesteban had two hits for the Bears, as did shortstop Juan Martinez.

The Bears take Monday off and return to action Tuesday night to begin a four-game series with the Pittsfield Colonials at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, with game time slated for 5:35 p.m.
