June 26, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Worcester 6, Pittsfield 1 (Game 1 - completion of suspended game from June 25)
In the completion of last night's suspended game between Worcester and Pittsfield, the Tornadoes beat the Colonials 6-1. Pittsfield scored a run in the top of the first inning when a single from left fielder Billy Mottram drove in shortstop Matt Nandin. Both teams were scoreless in the next frame before Worcester had a five-run third inning. Third baseman Mark Minicozzi hit a three-RBI double, and designated hitter Nick Salotti followed moments later with a two-run homer. Worcester extended its lead in the bottom of the seventh when first baseman Chris Colabello drove in one more run. Designated hitter Angel Molina led Pittsfield with two hits in four at-bats, and Salotti chipped in two hits, two RBI and a run. Zach Zuercher earned his fifth win of the season, allowing one hit, no runs and striking out five in six innings pitched.
Pittsfield 6, Worcester 4 (Game 2 - regularly scheduled game) - in progress
Rockland 7, New York 5
Rockland scored all seven of its runs in the bottom of the second inning, and the Boulders topped New York 7-5. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Rockland catcher Jonathan Candelier was walked and right fielder Tommy Giles scored the first run. Later in the inning, shortstop Ray Stokes was walked, too, scoring second baseman Deybis Benitez. Candelier scored after center fielder Sean Smith advanced to first from an error, and Rockland scored three more runs when Giles hit a double. Both teams were scoreless in the next six frames before New York scored five runs in the top of the ninth. But it was too little, too late for the Federals. Center fielder Stephen Pinto led New York with three hits and one run in three at-bats. Casey Hodges earned his third win of the season, allowing three hits, five runs and striking out four in eight innings pitched.
