New Jersey 4, Brockton 0
Jackals starting pitcher A.J. Wideman tossed five and two-thirds scoreless innings while allowing just three hits, as New Jersey blanked the Brockton Rox for a 4-0 win. With the win, Wideman picked up his first victory of the season, improving to 1-2. New Jersey LF Jeremy Slayden went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, and outfielder Leonard Davis and 3B Nick Giarraputo each collected an RBI as well. Jackals C Chris Anderson belted a solo home run in the top of the third to give New Jersey their first lead of the game. Jackals SS Mike DeJesus had two hits in the game. With a runner on and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, Jackals reliever Steve Fox entered the game. Despite allowing Brockton to load the bases, Fox eventually retired Rox 2B Mike Torres to record the third out and end the game. For Brockton, RF Keith Brachold had two hits in a losing effort.
Quebec 6, Newark 5
Quebec plated three runs in the first inning but then had to reclaim the lead late to narrowly edge the Bears for a 6-5 victory. Capitales DH Pete LaForest singled in CF Sebastien Boucher in the first inning to give Quebec a 1-0 lead. LaForest and 1B Rene Leveret later scored in the inning on a Newark error to cap off the three-run inning. Trailing 4-2 after five innings, the Bears scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Newark CF Tim Raines Jr. batted in a run to start the inning, and then the next batter, 1B Daryle Ward smacked a two-run home run. Quebec responded in the bottom half of the frame, tying the game on LaForest's sacrifice fly that scored SS Jeff Helps. In the bottom of the eighth, Leveret batted in the go-ahead run to reclaim a 6-5 lead for the Capitales. Quebec reliever TJ Stanton worked a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the game and earn the save. Dexter Bobo pitched a scoreless eighth inning and was credited with the win.
