Week 15 Game Results:

1/27/05 Elmira 5 @ Danbury 4

Danbury, CT - The Elmira Jackals climbed out from a 3-0 hole to beat the Danbury Trashers 5-4 Friday night at the Danbury Ice Arena. A week after dropping a 2-0 lead at home to Danbury, Elmira earned its just revenge back in Connecticut. Danbury jumped out early on the Jackals, Danny Stewart scored on a scramble in the crease to make it 1-0 Trashers at 9:50 of the opening period. 22 seconds later Donny Grover scored from long range for a two-goal lead. Troy Smith scored at 16:58 of the first to give Danbury their largest lead of the game, 3-0, but then Elmira started their remarkable turn-around. All-Star Jarrett Konkle blasted home a power play goal from the blue line at 18:23, assisted by Chris Chaput and Konstantin Kalmikov, a goal that reversed the momentum of the game and seemed to bring Elmira to life. Head Coach Perry Florio opted to bring Nick Boucher off the bench to start the second period in goal for the Jackals, replacing starter Ryan McIntosh. Boucher blanked Danbury during the middle frame, allowing Elmira the chance to claw themselves back into the game. First it was Josh Tataryn scoring his second goal as a Jackal, knocking home a rebound from Chris Mann and Carl Drakensjo to cut the lead to one at 7:36. Then captain Trevor Burgess beat Sylvain Daigle with a wrist-shot from the point at 12:43, which tied the game, assisted by Drakensjo and Josh Piro. Elmira out-shot Danbury 13-7 in the second period. The Jackals kept the pressure on the home team and wasted little time in taking the lead. The "Next Mayor of Elmira" Eddy Lowe collected a rebound from Florian Iberer's shot at 0:39 into the third period, spun around in front of the crease and slipped the puck past Daigle for a 4-3 lead. But the Jackals did not stop there. Chris Chaput took advantage of a miscommunication between Daigle and J.M. Daoust to tap in an unassisted goal at 4:57 of the third for a 5-3 lead, Elmira's 5th straight goal. With 40 seconds remaining in the game Danbury made a last ditch effort to retaliate. Eric Lind scored at 19:40 with the Danbury net empty to pull the Trashers back within a goal, but it was too late and Elmira took the two points with the 5-4 win. Nick Boucher earned his 6th win of the season by stopping 18-of-19 shots for Elmira over the final two periods of the game. Ryan McIntosh was 7-of-10 in the first period. Sylvain Daigle took the loss, his 8th of the year, while making 32 saves on 37 shots. 1/28/05 Danbury 6 @ Elmira 1

Danbury, CT - The Elmira Jackals suffered a difficult defeat Saturday night as they were soundly beaten by the Danbury Trashers 6-1 at the Danbury Ice Arena. After blowing a 3-0 lead the night before, the Trashers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. J.M. Daoust scored just 49 seconds into the game, setting the tone for a long evening for the Jackals. Jeff Daw made it 2-0 at 11:31 of the first as Danbury out-shot the Jackals 12-9 in the opening period. It was in the middle session when the home side blew the flood gates wide open. Drew Omicioli scored a power play goal at 2:06, a shot that deflected off a Jackals' stick up over the shoulder of Nick Boucher for a 3-0 score. Three minutes later the lead was four when Alex Goupil scored at 5:22 on what appeared to be another shot that changed direction on the way to the net. At 14:25 Danny Stewart gave the Trashers a 5-0 advantage with a goal from Ryan Barnes. Elmira's lone bright spot came late in the second period when rookie center Andy Rozak redirected a shot from John Donnelly past Sylvain Daigle for the first goal of his professional career. Rozak's goal was assisted by Donnelly and Josh Tataryn at 17:19 and it seemed to provide a little spark for the visitors. Elmira even was awarded a power play at 19:15 when Goupil was called for slashing. But any hopes the Jackals may have possessed were quickly dashed in the third period. Danbury killed off the carry-over penalty and then put the icing on the cake. J.M. Daoust finished off the scoring and the Jackals with his second goal of the game at 6:43, helping the Trashers to a 6-1 victory. Sylvain Daigle was in strong form in goal for Danbury, stopping 32-of-33 in the win for the Thrashers, while Nick Boucher suffered the loss while making 29 saves on 35 shots. Elmira was 1-for-6 on the power play and Danbury was 1-for-4.

1/29/05 Motor City 6 @ Elmira 2

Elmira, NY - The Motor City Mechanics came from behind to defeat the Elmira Jackals 6-2 Sunday afternoon at the First Arena. The first period started off slow with only 3 whistles blown in the first nine minutes of the game. Ryan McIntosh stopped a flurry of shots half way through the period when the intensity of the game started to pick up and the Jackals starting throwing their bodies around. Luck struck Elmira first when 3 separate penalties were called on the visiting Mechanics within one minute of each other. Elmira was able to capitalize on the ensuing 5-on-3 advantage with a power play goal snapped into the net by Konstantin Kalmikov. The goal came at 12:01 of the first period and was setup by Trevor Burgess and goalie Ryan McIntosh. Nearly two minutes later the Jackals found themselves on another power play chance, but they were unable to capitalize. Shortly after Motor City returned to full strength they were whistled for too many men on the ice and Brent Gretzky had to serve the bench minor giving the Jackals yet again another chance to widen the lead, of which they could not take advantage. That's how the score would end in the first with Elmira leading by a score of 1-0 and out-shooting Motor City 20-8. As the buzzer sounded Jason Sessa was booked for a boarding call causing the Jackals to start out the second period a man down. The Mechanics setup their power play effectively and did not waste the opportunity at hand when David Herring scored the power play goal 1:52 into the second period. 10:58 into the second the Mechanics took the lead 2-1 when Vlad Serov netted his only goal of the game. That's how the teams would go into the locker room at the end of the second period with a 2-1 score but Elmira still leading in shots 27-23. The final period was filled with frustration for the Jackals as they went two men down early on and Brent Gretzky made them pay when he scored at 5:00 to make the score 3-1. Then Adam Edinger scored one second after the second penalty expired to give Motor City a 4-1 lead at 6:16. Kalmikov again gave Elmira life as he scored his second goal of the game at 11:30, assisted by McIntosh and Florian Iberer to cut the lead to 4-2. But Motor City would ice the game with Gretzky's second goal of the game at 15:20 and a Kevin Hansen empty netter at 19:32 to cap off a 6-2 Motor City victory. Rod Branch earned his 20th win of the season by stopping 38 of 40 shots for Motor City, while Ryan McIntosh made 31 saves on 36 shots in the loss for Elmira. Motor City went 2 for 4 on the power play while the Jackals finished 1 for 9.
