Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - While the play was better, the result was still the same. The Odessa Jackalopes (7-29-1-1) fell 4-0 to the Amarillo Bulls (31-7-1-2) at the Ector County Coliseum on Saturday.
While the Bulls scored the first goal of the game just over six minutes into the first period, the Jackalopes had some good chances as well and played solid defensive hockey in front of Zach Stern who made his tenth consecutive start for the Jacks.
In the second period Nick Trela scored his first of three goals less then ninety seconds into the second period but the Jacks held firm on the defensive end blocking shots and disrupting Amarillo. The Jackalopes penalty kill was also strong keeping the Bull's top-ten power play off the board for the second straight night.
In the third period both sides battled for the third goal of the night, despite some good chances, especially on the power play, the Bulls scored two more goals in fifteen seconds as Trela scored twice to record a natural hat trick.
While the Jackalopes failed to score, their defensive play was much improved and the penalty looked strong as well. In addition, Zach Stern made 48 saves that matched a season high set back on January 11. All of these factors produced an exciting and competitive hockey game.
The Jacks will conclude their weekend series on Sunday at 5:00 at the JackShack.
