Trela and Gutjahr Shine in Second Straight Shutout of Odessa

Odessa, TX - Nick Trela's hat-trick and Max Gutjahr's second consecutive shutout powered the Amarillo Bulls as they blanked the Odessa Jackalopes 4-0 on Saturday night.

As they did on Friday night, Amarillo took control of the game with a number of early chances to put the puck in the back of the net. The would tally the opening goal of the contest, just over six minutes into the first period, when Matt Allen netted his 18th goal of the season.

In the second period, Amarillo would extend their lead when Nick Trela sliced his eighth of the year past the Odessa netminder, bringing the score to 2-0.

The lead would grow for Amarillo as Nick Trela walked into the slot and scored his second of the game at the mid-way point of the third period. Trela would, again, find the back of the net just 15 seconds later for his 10th goal of the season, completing the hat-trick and solidifying the 4-0 victory.

Max Gutjahr would stop 9 of 9 shots he faced, earning his third shutout, his second in as many nights, and 16th victory of the season.

With the win, the Bulls are now 31-7-1-2 with 65 points and maintain the second spot in South Division standings.

The win is also a milestone for Rocky Russo, who reached 100 victories as the head coach of the team.

"This milestone isn't just about me or anyone specifically," said Russo, humbly. "There are a lot of people who have contributed to this team's success."

The Bulls will remain on the road on Sunday, January 26, to take on the Odessa Jackalopes. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 5:00PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
