Austin Bruins News Release
CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wisc. - The Austin Bruins dropped their second consecutive game to the Chippewa Steel on Saturday night, falling by a final score of 5-2.
For the second night in a row, the Steel struck first but unlike Friday, it took quite some time for the home team to solve Tyler Shea. Neither team was able to get a tally in the first period, it wasn't until Gordan Whalen scored his second goal of the season 5:11 into the middle frame. It took nearly seven minutes for the Bruins to retaliate and tie the game, but it was worth the wait. Taking a pass off the right-wing wall from Josef Mysak, Dante Sheriff walked into the slot and flipped a shot over Steel goalie Trent Burnham. With the goal, Dante Sheriff registered his 147th point as an Austin Bruin, surpassing Travis Kothenbeutel and making Sheriff the all-time leader in points scored for the Austin Bruins. With the game tied at one goal apiece, the Steel stuck back a little more than three minutes later. Jacob Dirks beat Tyler Shea through a scramble and the Steel were back on top, 2-1. To cap things off in the second period, Issac Moberg would increase the Steel's lead to 3-1 with his first goal of the night.
Out of the gate in the third the Bruins battled back, getting a goal from Josef Mysak, his second of the weekend, and pulling the Bruins within one, 3-2. As time dwindled down, the Bruins opted to pull Shea in the final three minutes while on the power-play for the six-on-four advantage. Unfortunately, the Bruins couldn't battle back and Issac Moberg would complete his hat-trick with two empty-net goals to seal the game, 5-2.
With the loss, the Bruins fall to 21-12-2-4 on the season while the Steel improve to 23-12-0-0. Up next for the Bruins, they take on the Minot Minotauros for a pair of games in North Dakota before returning home on February 8, 2020 for the Bruins annual Paint the Rink Pink game. Tickets for Paint the Rink Pink are on sale NOW at all the Bruins vendors including Games People Play, Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, and Jim's Marketplace.
