(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 7-2 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
York took a 2-0 lead against Long Island starting pitcher Anderson DeLeon in the top half of the third inning courtesy of a two-run home run to the opposite field in right off the bat of Melky Mesa. The Flock evened the game at two in the home half of the frame versus Revolution starter Austin Steinfort thanks to an RBI double produced by Vladimir Frias followed by a run-scoring single off the bat of Steve Lombardozzi.
The Ducks took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh off York reliever Alberto Rodriguez with Frias at it once again as his second RBI double allowed Daniel Fields to cross the plate after he began the rally by belting a ground-rule double to right centerfield. The home team broke the game open in the last of the eighth, sending ten batters to the plate and scoring four times in the process to extend their cushion to 7-2, highlighted with bases loaded walks to Fields, Lombardozzi, and Breland Almadova.
Neither pitcher factored in the game's final outcome, as Steinfort allowed two runs on four hits in six innings pitched, walking two while surrendering a balk. DeLeon gave up gave up two runs on three hits (one home run) in five innings pitched, walking five, striking out eight and hitting one batter. Rodriguez (1-2) was tagged with the loss as he allowed one run on three hits in one inning of relief. The victory went to Rob Griswald (1-0) in his first ever professional baseball game as the right-hander fired two scoreless inning out of the bullpen, striking out one. Frias led the way for Long Island with three hits (two doubles), a walk, two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.
The Ducks and Revolution wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 4:05 (3:50 for full season ticket holders). The first 750 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Action Posters. It's also a Sunday Family Funday, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union! Prior to the game, fans will be invited down for a Catch on the Field from 4:10 to 4:30. After the game, fans of all ages are also invited to take part in Kids Run the Bases. Both the pregame Catch on the Field and postgame Kids Run the Bases are weather dependent. Right-hander Scott Harkin (2-0, 0.75) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Revolution righty Jake Welch (1-2, 8.21).
