ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints sent at least nine men to the plate in three of their eight at bats. Of the 11 players that got into the game, 10 collected hits, nine had an RBI and nine scored a run. When it was all over the Saints claimed their third consecutive win to start the season in an 18-8 romp over the Gary SouthShore Railcats on Saturday night at CHS Field in front of 8,513.

The Saints pounded out 20 hits, smacked eight extra base hits, including four home runs, two by Angelo Songco and scored in five of the eight innings including seven in the second. With the Saints up 4-1 in the second they sent 11 men to the plate and it started with a Breland Almadova double. Five straight RBI singles, a wild pitch and a throwing error by the pitcher led to the seven runs in the inning giving the Saints an 11-1 lead.

In the third the Saints turned to their power when Songco and Nate Hanson hit back-to-back homers, each hitting their first of the season, to make it 13-1.

With the Saints leading 13-4 in the fifth two more solo shots, the first a towering drive by Songco, his second of the night, and two batters later Tony Thomas got in on the fun with his first of the year, to make it 15-4. Songco finished 3-6 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored. Thomas was 3-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

The Saints finished their scoring in the sixth when Tanner Vavra led off with a double and scored on a triple from Alonzo Harris. Almadova knocked home Harris with a single and three batters later Brady Burzynski collected his first professional hit and RBI with a double to drive home Harris.

Almadova finished the night 4-6 with an RBI and three runs scored, the fourth time in his career he has had a four hit game.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the four game series on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP John Straka (NR) to the mound against RHP Travis McGee (NR). Fans can bring their dogs to the park on Chuck & Don's Dog Day. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in and around the Twin Cities.
