Everett Silvertips News Release
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kevin Davis delivered a pair of goals in the third period and Mario Petit made 22 saves to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 4-2 victory over the Tri-City Americans before 4,302 fans at Toyota Center on Saturday in WHL action.
By earning back to back wins in 48 hours, the Silvertips halted two separate win streaks: a six-gamer by the Seattle Thunderbirds (Friday) and the Tri-City Americans (Saturday) and shattered a 1-1 tie with three goals in the final 20 minutes. Even without the experience of veterans Noah Juulsen, Lucas Skrumeda and Dominic Zwerger, the Tips had nine players hit the scoresheet and earned their 4th win in seven games this season against the second place Americans, now 4-1-2 this season.
With first rounder Ethan Browne making his WHL debut, his linemate Brandson Hein lifted the Tips to a 1-0 lead at 18:33 of the first period, cruising in the Tri-City zone and beating Rylan Parenteau with a snap shot from the left circle. Petit stood firm with eight saves in the first period.
Petit made an imperative save with six minutes left in the second period on Kyle Olson, sliding post to post and Matt Fonteyne was stopped on a late period breakaway, threatening for a 2-0 lead. But the Americans returned up ice and Olson's wrister from the left circle tied the game, 1-1 with 11 seconds left in the period.
Davis first of two goals in the third period put the Tips ahead, 2-1 when he stepped into a loose puck at the high slot at 11:51 but less than two minutes later, Vladislav Lukin's deflection tied the game at 13:23.
Jusso Valimaki's clear over the glass was whistled for delay of game and the Silvertips capitalized on another Davis one-timer, 4:30 left on a set up by Patrick Bajkov for a 3-2 lead. Parenteau was pulled for a sixth attacker and after a Jordan Topping charge on Aaron Irving (five minute major), Dewar spun a shot from center ice into an empty net with 27 seconds remaining.
The Silvertips return home tomorrow, 4:05 p.m. (1380 AM / Tips App) vs Spokane with tickets on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.
