Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The 2010 Albuquerque Isotopes Opening Day roster has been revealed, featuring a mix of returning favorites and an influx of new up-and-coming talent as manager Tim Wallach's squad begins its Pacific Coast League American Southern Division title defense. Topping the list of players returning from 2009 is catcher A.J. Ellis, infielder Chin-lung Hu, and outfielders Jamie Hoffmann and Xavier Paul.
Albuquerque will start the season with a pitching staff loaded with some of the Dodgers' top young prospects as left-hander Scott Elbert and right-hander James McDonald, both of whom were in the running for Los Angeles' fifth starter spot this spring, will begin the year with the 'Topes. In addition to Elbert and McDonald, the Isotopes' rotation is scheduled to include right-hander Josh Lindblom, right-hander John Ely (one of two pitchers, along with closer Jon Link, who were acquired by the Dodgers in last winter's Juan Pierre trade), and right-hander Josh Towers. In addition to Link, the 'Topes' bullpen will also feature former Isotopes, and Major League veterans, Justin Miller and Roy Corcoran as well as lefty Brent Leach, and right-hander Travis Schlichting, both Isotopes from a year ago.
A pair of familiar faces will do the catching with Ellis joining J.D. Closser as the team's backstops.
Anchoring Albuquerque's infield along with Hu will be second baseman Ivan DeJesus, Jr., whose father, Ivan Sr., played for the Dukes from 1974-76 before embarking on a 15-year Major League career. Nick Green, who spent all of last year in Boston, and corner infielders John Lindsey and Russ Mitchell round out 'Topes Opening Day infield.
Along with Hoffmann and Paul in the outfield, Major League veteran Jay Gibbons will open the season in Albuquerque, as will be Prentice Redman and Michael Restovich.
Isotopes Media Day is scheduled for tomorrow, April 6 at 10:00 AM after which the team will travel to Oklahoma City to begin the 2010 season on April 8. Albuquerque's home opener will be on Monday, April 12 when the team welcomes in the New Orleans Zephyrs, Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins.
The Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will begin their season on April 8 with the home opener taking place on April 12. Tickets are currently on-sale at the Isotopes Park Box Office, Ticketmaster Outlets, on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com, or Ticketmaster by phone: (800) 745-3000.
