Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

With Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda looking on, catcher Nick Trzesniak delivered an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning that broke a 6-6 tie and sent the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 9-6 win over the Las Vegas 51s in Spring Training action today in Vero Beach, Florida. Centerfielder Eric Reed also chipped in two hits, an RBI, and scored twice to help Albuquerque improve its spring record to 6-5-2.

With two on and one out in the final frame, Trzesniak belted a double down the third base line, scoring Scott Seabol from second and giving Albuquerque a 7-6 lead. Infielder Josh Labandeira then added some insurance by lifting a sacrifice fly to plate Frankie Moore before Reed flared a single to center that scored Trzesniak and capped the 9-6 win.

First baseman Jason Stokes is also swinging the bat well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, while Chris Ashby contributed a two-out RBI single and his first triple of the pre-season.

Pitcher Jeff Fulchino started the game, going five innings before handing things off to Ross Wolf, who pitched two scoreless before yielding to Eddy Rodriguez, who earned the win.

The news was also good for Isotopes icon Jason Wood, who was named to the Florida Marlins roster today, earning an Opening Day roster spot in the Major Leagues for just the second time in his career. In 1998, Wood broke camp with the Oakland A's and made his big league debut on April 1, but was optioned to Triple-A Edmonton eight days later. This spring, the 37 year-old infielder batted a Marlins team-high .468 (17-for-41) with five doubles, two homers, six RBI, and 10 runs scored.

The Isotopes will finish up their Spring Training schedule tomorrow with a trip to St. Lucie to take on the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Albuquerque begins its 2007 Triple-A All-Star campaign on April 5th. Individual game tickets, season tickets and mini-plans are now on sale at Isotopes Park. Season ticket and mini-plan holders have the opportunity to purchase their same seats for the All-Star Fiesta and are encouraged to do so quickly.
