Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

A constant rain did not affect the Iowa Cubs (59-38) offense in a 6-2 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (40-55) Friday night at Isotopes Park. Despite a strong performance by Isotopes' starter Chris Seddon, in which he threw six inning of two run baseball while striking out four Iowa Cubs, he did not factor in the decision as the late innings proved to be costly for Albuquerque. The Isotopes had their offensive opportunities throughout the game, but did not capitalize on them, leaving ten men on the bases.

The I-Cubs drew first blood in the top of the first as Felix Pie reached with one-out after being hit by a pitch only to quickly scamper around the bases when Micah Hoffpauir cracked a double to right-center field for an initial Iowa lead, 1-0.

Albuquerque responded in the bottom of the frame when Lorenzo Scott slugged a leadoff solo blast over the left field fence to tie up the game at one.

Cubs' catcher Koyie Hill broke the up the tie in the fourth by knocking a one-out solo homer to left as Iowa reclaimed the lead, 2-1.

The ‘Topes would continue to show off their power in the bottom of the fourth when Tagg Bozied tattooed a line-drive home run over the visiting bullpen in left-center field to tie the game up again at two.

Iowa opened up the game in the seventh when Andres Torres reached after being hit by a Randy Williams offering only to dash around to third, collecting two stolen bases to set up Pie, who doubled down the left field line, plating Torres and giving the Cubs the 3-2 advantage. Hoffpauir extended the offensive attack by slashing a single to left that would score Pie from first and give Iowa a two run lead while ending the night for Williams. Logan Kensing entered the game only to have Jason Dubois smack a double to right-center field that allowed Hoffpauir to safely reach third. With the infield in, Hoffpauir sprinted safely home after a wild pitch from Kensing that increased the lead to three, 5-2. The Cubs had runners on the corners with two outs when Hill stung a single to left field that scored Dubois and gave Iowa the controlling lead at 6-2.

The duo of Jim Brower and Carmen Pignatello locked down the Isotopes offense over the final three frames by only giving up three hits and striking out two in securing the 6-2 win for Iowa.

The Isotopes continue their four-game weekend series against the Iowa Cubs tomorrow, with ‘Topes righty Bobby Keppel (7-8, 5.60) battling Cubs' right-hander Mike Burns (6-5, 3.63) at Isotopes Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
