Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Keith Getson had a pair of goals, including the game winner as the Islanders scored four unanswered goals and picked up their first road win of the season, beating the Moncton Wildcats 4-3 at the Moncton Coliseum on Friday night.

After a back-and-forth first period, a couple of quick goals from the Wildcats gave them a 2-0 lead before the period was over.

After David Comeau lost control of the puck at the blue line, the Wildcats ended up with a 2-on-1. Liam Murphy passed the puck across the crease to Kelly Klima, who put it over the top of a sprawling Daryl MacCallum.

Shortly after the goal, Quinn O'Brien was sent to the box for interference, and it took the Wildcats just 22 seconds to extend their lead to two courtesy of a goal from Kevin Klima.

The Islanders had a big second period, but not before the Wildcats extended their lead to three. Kelly Klima struck yet again with a shot that went off the crossbar and in 3:35 into the period.

Less than a minute later, the Islanders had a bit of luck on their side to get them on the board with a shot that somehow found its way into the net. Keith Getson received credit for the goal, with the assist going to Filip Rydstrom.

Midway through the period, Kelly Klima was getting involved again, but this time by getting sent to the box for delay of game. On the ensuing power play, Shawn Boudrias threw the puck under the pads of Zachary Fortin for his first QMJHL goal, bringing the Isles within one.

With momentum on their side, Brad Kennedy was able to tie the game just a couple of minutes later. Dexter Weber and Oliver Cooper drew the assists.

The Islanders came on strong in the third, and midway through the period were rewarded with Getson's second of the game, sniping the puck past Fortin.

Moncton had some late chances, including a power play, but the Islanders held on for the win.

Charlottetown went 1 for 3 on the power play in the game, and 2 for 3 on the penalty kill. MacCallum made 20 saves in net as the Islanders outshot the Wildcats 30-23.

It was the first game of the season for forward Kam Kielly and defenceman David Henley, who both returned from NHL rookie camps. Kielly was a +1 with no points while Henley was a +2.

The Isles' next game is Sunday at 3 p.m. in Cape Breton.
