Hawaiian Islanders News Release
GAME RECAP: HAWAII at BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT Bossier-Shreveport Defeats Hawaii 61-42
By Alema Harrington, Communications Manager
SHREVEPORT, LA â Despite a 226 to 175 yard advantage on total offense, the Hawaiian Islanders dropped their second consecutive road game with a 61-42 loss to the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings.
The Battle Wings (2-3), who lost last week to Memphis 69-29, took advantage of some early opportunities and never looked back.
Field position proved to be a major advantage for Bossier. Of their seven touchdown drives, five were only 27 yards or less. Of Hawaii's six touchdowns, five were of drives of 29 yards or longer.
Bossier-Shreveport quarterback Sherard Poteete orchestrated several key drives in the first half to keep Hawaii off guard. Poteete threw for one touchdown and ran for two others as the Battle Wings outgained Hawaii on the ground (41 to 7 yards).
Islanders quarterback Darnell Arceneaux suffered through a disappointing performance as he completed only 19-of-39 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns.
Aaron Smith caught nine passes for 75 yards while Nian Taylor, Anthony Arceneaux and Mike Miller each caught three passes. Taylor and Miller each caught one touchdown while Anthony Arceneaux caught two.
The Islanders (3-2) return home on Sunday and will return to the road to face the San Diego Riptide next Saturday (May 8). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. HST.
MEADOW GOLD DAIRIES FAMILY FANFEST
Got milk?
The Hawaiian Islanders kicked off the first-ever Family FANFest with much success thanks to Meadow Gold Dairies for their sponsorship and support of the Islanders!
Featured at the first two FANFest events were Kikaida and his friends (April 17) dealing out "double chops" to the bad guys, and Team High Performance (April 24) who wowed the crowd with impressive yo-yo tricks.
Prior to every home game, the fun begins for Islanders fans at 4:30 p.m. with an Islanders inflatable replica arena football field, a quarterback challenge, face painting, poster making, milk mustaches, Meadow Gold Dairies samples, and great entertainment. Kawika Moo, Gusto the Gecko, and Tiny Tadani of OC-16's Tiny TV will be part of the festivities at every FANFest. Exclusive to Meadow Gold Dairies FANFest, thirty lucky fans at each FANFest will be chosen to sit in the "Kawika Moo Bullpen", the endzone VIP seats, for that night's game. Admission is free with a game day ticket. So Get IN the Game at the Meadow Gold Dairies Family FanFest!
