Bakersfield Blitz News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Blitz, who are in first place in the West Division of the af2, have made several roster changes today, including the addition of Bakersfield native, QB Jeff Dover. Another Bakersfield native, OS Steve Wofford, has been placed on Short-Term Injured Reserve.

Dover, who will turn 25 on Saturday, attended training camp with the Blitz but did not make the final roster. His assignment from the af2 league office was prompted by QB Mark Wilson's suspension for violating team policy.

At 6'2", 225, Dover played at Bakersfield College after graduating from Highland High, and suited up for the Blitz in 2003. He completed 28 of his 70 passes for four touchdowns and nearly 300 yards. Chad Elliott, who is currently the leading passer in af2 at over 280 yards through the air per game, has taken every snap for Bakersfield through their first five games.

"We feel like we already have the best quarterback in af2 in Chad Elliott," said Head Coach Rick Van Horne. "But Jeff's a capable quarterback that we feel confident can come in and contribute right away."

Wofford pulled up limp on just the fifth play from scrimmage in last Saturday's 49-21 victory over the Arkansas Twisters. The Bakersfield High and Southern University grad had already pulled in a pair of catches for 19 yards in the game when he was injured. He ranks second on the team in receptions and receiving yards, and leads the Blitz with an average of over 156 all-purpose yards per game.

Wofford's placement on Short-Term IR requires him to miss two weeks. He will be eligible to return for Steve Wofford Jersey Giveaway Night on May 22nd against the Memphis Xplorers, but his actual return date is currently unknown. In addition to Wofford being placed on IR, WR/DB Jay Morris has been activated.

The Blitz will host the San Diego Riptide on Saturday, May 15th at 7:00pm. That night, the team will wear special U.S. Armed Forces Day Jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club. Five of the special jerseys will be raffled off, with everyone in attendance eligible to win. Real Rock 93.1 and Bright House Networks sponsor the night. In addition, everyone in attendance will receive Blitz Thunderstix. All Blitz games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230 with the "Voice of the Blitz" Kevin Bartl.

Pro-rated season tickets and group outings for the Blitz are on sale now by contacting the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548) or by stopping by the Bakersfield Sports Entertainment office located at Centennial Garden. The Garden box office is open Monday through Friday 10:00am – 5:00pm and open at noon on Saturday event days. For up-to-date information on the Blitz, log on to www.bakersfieldblitz.com.
