Visalia Oaks vs. Bakersfield Blaze

Visalia - 12-15, 3rd place in the Northern Division vs. Bakersfield - 9-17, 5th place in the Northern Division

Riding High: The Oaks are coming off a series in which they took two out of three from the first place Modesto Athletics at Modesto. Visalia won last night's game against the A's, 17-6.

Skid Stopped: The Blaze is coming of a game with the opposite complexion, a 2-0 win at San Jose yesterday afternoon. The victory ended a seven game losing streak, which was the longest of the season so far for any team in the California League.

Last to Ten: Bakersfield is the only California League team without ten victories.

17: Before last night, the Oaks had not scored 17 runs in a game since 2002.

Moving Away From Home: This series represents the end of a stretch of 17 out of 20 games that the Oaks will play at home. Visalia went 5-8 on a 13 game home stand that concluded Sunday, May 2.

Better on the Road? Visalia took 2-out-of-3 from the Athletics in Modesto just before beginning this series. The Oaks are now 5-5 on the road this season.

Welcome Home: Bakersfield outfielder Matt Rico is a graduate of Mt. Whitney High School and also played at Fresno City College.

Tonight's Promotions: It is Cracker Jack Fireworks Night. A fireworks display will follow the game. Also after the game, all kids will be allowed to run the bases. After kids run the bases, Boy Scouts from the Sequoia Council will camp out on the field overnight. There will be a clinic with Oaks players and coaches at 10 a.m. Saturday for those who stay overnight. Scouts from Troop 317 in Visalia will present the colors prior to tonight's game. The first 500 fans entering the game will be given Cracker Jack samples and full color posters of Oaks pitcher Darren Clarke from Bank of the Sierra and IDEA! Printing and Graphics. Clarke will be signing autographs in the concourse for one half hour, beginning when the gates open. It is also a Will Tiesiera Ford Grand Slam Friday. If the Oaks hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning, one fan chosen at random will win a new car from Will Tiesiera Ford.

On the Visalia-Buick-Pontiac-GMC Barbecue Picnic Deck: A group from Adair and Evans is enjoying an All-You-Can-Eat buffet tonight along with guests of Kaweah Pump. Cherel Price and Jan Westbay are celebrating their birthdays on the Deck with an All-You-Can-Eat buffet as well.

Tonight's Starting Pitchers: RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (4-0, 1.50 ERA) is making his sixth start of the season for Visalia. He is the Califonria League leader with 44 strikeouts and is fourth in the league in ERA. (Bakersfield's Chris Seddon is the league leader with a 0.78 ERA.) Jimenez has allowed one run or less AND pitched six or more innings in four of his first five starts. His only no-decision was against Lake Elsinore on April 20 when he gave up three runs on four hits over five innings. Jimenez is coming off a complete game victory, which was the first of the season in the Cal League, last Saturday in game one of the Oaks' doubleheader sweep of Stockton. He allowed one hit over seven innings. Jimenez tossed six no-hit innings at Stockton on April 14.

RHP Nick DeBarr (0-3, 5.32 ERA) has lost every other start this season and if the pattern holds up is due for a no decision. He pitched five innings and gave up just one run on two hits against Modesto last Sunday, but lost to the A's, who blanked Bakersfield, 5-0. DeBarr has walked one more batter than he has struck out (15 compared to 14).

Wrap Around: This series continues through Monday. Below are the expected pitching match ups: Visalia Bakersfield Saturday, 7:05 p.m. RHP Doug Johnson (0-3, 9.41 ERA) vs. LHP Joe Little (1-1, 4.26 ERA) Sunday, 1:35 p.m. RHP Jon Asahina (0-0, 4.15 ERA) vs. LHP Mike Prochaska (1-1, 1.75 ERA) Monday, 6:35 p.m. LHP Buddy Gallagher (1-2, 7.66 ERA) vs. RHP Mark Camoli (1-4, 6.04 ERA) The Radisson Pre Game Show begins at 6:52 p.m. Saturday on AM 1270 KJUG and at kjugam.com.
