MOVES MADE IN PREPERATION FOR UNBEATEN STEALTH

DORADOS ADD McKINLEY BOWIE TO THE ROSTER

HIDALGO, TX: May 7, 2004 – The arenafootball2's (af2) Rio Grande Valley Dorados made a roster change today in preparation for Saturday night's home contest against Southwest Division leading Wichita, as the af2 has assigned wide receiver/linebacker McKinley Bowie to the Dorados. To make room for Bowie, the Dorados have placed Rico Gardner on reassignment.

Bowie (BOO-ee) is a 6'2" 225-pound native of Houston, Texas and joins the Dorados with af2 experience. He played six games last season in the af2, playing a game with the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings and five games with the Memphis Xplorers. His season totals included 2 receptions for 13 yards and a touchdown reception, 4 tackles (3 unassisted, 2 assisted), 2 pass deflections and 2 fumble recoveries.

In Memphis, Bowie was a teammate of Dorados quarterback Will Burch. Bowie was a prep standout at Aldine's Eisenhower High School and received several honors. He was listed as a Max Emfinger National Bluechip All-American and ranked among the top 15 linebackers in the country by Emfinger in 1995, and he was listed among top recruiting lists in five state-wide publications. The Houston Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Year Finalist played his college career at Baylor. Bowie redshirted in 1996 and then went on to play from 1997-2000 with the Bears and amassed 149 tackles (94 unassisted) and 5 sacks over his college tenure as a strongside linebacker. His finest season came during his junior season (1999) as he finished the season with 51 tackles (35 unassisted) and garnered 2 sacks and an 83-yard interception for a touchdown against Boston College, which was recorded as the seventh longest in program history.

It is the second time this season the Dorados have placed Gardner on reassignment. Gardner, a 6'0" 205-pound wide receiver/defensive back out of Howard Payne University, played in both of the Dorados road games this season and had been added back to the roster prior to last Saturday's game in Laredo due to injuries. In that game, Gardner led the team in rushing with a 15-yard carry. He also had one catch for 10 yards, a 21-yard missed field goal return, and a 12-yard onside kickoff return for a touchdown. On the year, Gardner's statistics include 10 receptions for 65 yards and 197 all-purpose yards
