Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Make it six straight wins for the Charlottetown Islanders as they defeat the Saint John Sea Dogs at home by a score of 4-3.

The shoot-first mentality was in full effect once again as Charlottetown introduced Sea Dogs starting netminder Alex D'Orio to a lot of rubber early on. It wouldn't take long for Nikita Alexandrov to kick off the scoring for Charlottetown in the first period. Controlling the puck in the offensive zone, Alexandrov worked his way to the middle of the slot before firing a backhander over the shoulder of D'Orio for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Sea Dogs would answer not long after that to tie the game up, as James White would record his first career QMJHL goal. With less than a minute to go in the first, Saint John would take the lead thanks to a powerplay goal from Maxim Cajkovic.

It looked as if Charlottetown had tied the game up midway through the second period. Keith Getson drove to the net hard on D'Orio but gave him a bump in the process, negating the goal that Daniel Hardie scored on the subsequent rebound due to goalie interference.

The score wouldn't stay in Saint John's favour for long though. On one of Charlottetown's five powerplays, Pierre-Olivier Joseph would find Kevin Gursoy on his off wing for a quick one-time shot that deflected off of Sea Dogs defender Brendan Sibley and past D'Orio. For Gursoy, that was his third goal of the season.

Hardie would get his retribution near the end of the second period. On a similar play to the no-goal, Getson drove to the net but stopped short and shot on D'Orio. The rebound kicked out to Hardie who made no mistake for his eighth of the season.

The ever-resilient Sea Dogs would answer back in the third period on the powerplay once again. Standing to the left of Isles starting netminder Dakota Lund-Cornish, Yohan Plamondon would bank a shot off of P-O Joseph and past Lund-Cornish for his team-leading seventh goal of the season to tie the game.

The Islanders would regain the lead, once again thanks to the re-formed line of Hardie, Gursoy, and Keith Getson. It would be the long-time Islander who would score the game-winning goal off a bank pass from Daniel Hardie, sealing the victory for Charlottetown.

Gursoy and Getson would each finish the game with a goal and two assists. The third leg of the tripod, Hardie, finished with a goal and an assist.

The action doesn't stop for Charlottetown this Rivalry Weekend as they head to Saint John on Sunday afternoon. Follow all the action on the Charlottetown Islanders app and with Peter Ruttgaizer on Fair Isle Ford Isles Radio!
