Charlottetown Islanders News Release
Charlottetown - Charlottetown Islanders General Manager Grant Sonier announced today the release of goaltender Daryl MacCallum. MacCallum's Junior "A" rights belong to the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Hockey League.
"Daryl has improved in leaps and bounds over the past few seasons, but with the return of Mason McDonald we had a numbers issue to address and felt moving forward it was in the team's best interest to do so with two goaltenders".
In 27 games with the Islanders last season, MacCallum, recorded 7 wins, with a 4.65 goals against average and a 0.859 save percentage. MacCallum also helped the Islanders win their first playoff series in over a decade replacing an injured Mason McDonald in game two. In 8 playoff games he registered a 3.26 goals against average and a 0.911 save percentage. So far this season, MacCallum appeared in 4 games with a 2.81 goals against average and a 0.917 save percentage.
"Daryl has contributed a great deal to our organization and we fully expect to see him back in our lineup throughout the season. It's important as a goaltender to play and by releasing Daryl he will be given that opportunity".
The Islanders return to action this weekend with three games in four nights. Thursday night the Islanders travel to Victoriaville to take on the Tigres, followed by a stop in Blainville on Friday before finishing out the weekend on Sunday against the Rimouski Oceanic.
Cory Arsenault will have the call all weekend long. Tune into Fair Isle Ford Isles Radio and listen to all the action live: Islesradio.com.
