Charlottetown Islanders News Release

In hockey, your best players have to be your best players in order to win. Fortunately for the Charlottetown Islanders, they're best players have been just that.

Pierre-Olivier Joseph put forth a four-point effort, including scoring the game-winning goal, as the Islanders defeated the Victoriaville Tigres 4-3 in overtime.

The action didn't start out hot for Charlottetown; just 20 seconds in to the game Egor Serdyuk intercepted an errant Islanders pass and streaked in on Dakota Lund-Cornish before sliding it underneath the Isles netminder for his seventh goal of the season.

The ever-resilient Islanders didn't let the early adversity get to them, however, and tied the game up before the end of the period. And who else would be but Daniel Hardie? The team's leading scorer displayed great patience entering the offensive zone to wait for the perfect screen before firing a wrister past Tigres netminder Fabio Iacobo for his twelfth goal of the season.

The Islanders sustained the offensive pressure throughout the remainder of the first period, dominating the Tigres throughout the period and firing 16 shots on Iacobo to just 3 on Lund-Cornish.

Hardie and the Islanders broke the tie midway through the second period on the powerplay. Keith Getson would corral the puck on the right wing and snap a pass to a waiting Hardie in the middle of the ice. He'd tip the puck past Iacobo for his thirteenth goal on the season. He now sits tied with Egor Sokolov for second overall in the QMJHL in goals.

Victoriaville would storm back though thanks to a goal from Vincent Sevigny, the first goal and point of his QMJHL career. They'd take the lead midway through the third thanks to Egor Serdyuk and his second goal of the game.

It was at this point that Pierre-Olivier Joseph would hoist his team on to his back. Already with two assists in the game, Joseph received the pass from Thomas Casey down low and threw a seeing-eye shot on net that beat Iacobo to tie the game up, ultimately sending the game in to overtime.

Joseph would waste little time putting the game on ice, walking in to the Tigres zone just 37 seconds in to the extra frame and wiring a wrister past Iacobo for the game-winner.

Joseph would finish the game with four points. With seven points in the last two games, he now has registered a point on each of Charlottetown's goals thus far on the Quebec road trip. Hardie would finish the game with two goals and an assist, while Keith Getson got in on the multi-point action as well with two assists.

The Isles wrap up their Quebec road trip tomorrow in a matinee affair with the Sherbrooke Phoenix Sunday at 4:00pm Atlantic. Join George Matthews and Aidan Northcott with all the action on Fair Isle Ford Isles Radio!
