
Islanders Acquire F Melancon from Cataractes

Charlottetown Islanders head coach and general manager Jim Hulton announced today that the Islanders have acquired the rights to forward Max-Antoine Melançon from the Shawinigan Cataractes in exchange for a 2020 6th round pick.
Melançon is currently playing for the Princeville Titan in the LHJAAAQ, Quebec's Junior A league. In 24 games this season, the 6'3 forward currently has eight goals and 23 points, good for fifth on his team. The 18-year-old already has a bevy of QMJHL experience, having played parts of two seasons with the Cataractes.
His career-best came last season as a 17-year-old, recording 13 points in 46 with Shawinigan. In 68 career Q games, Melançon has recorded 8 goals and 19 points. He was originally drafted in the 4th round, 73rd overall, by the Saint John Sea Dogs in the 2017 QMJHL Draft.
Melançon will join the Islanders this weekend and be in the lineup this Friday for Charlottetown's Hockey Fights Cancer game against the Val d'Or Foreurs. Tickets are available at the Eastlink Centre box office, by phone at 902-629-6625, or online at https://boxoffice.eastlinkcentrepei.com.
