IronPigs Game Notes

July 1, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

In a battle between teams tied for first place in the North Division, the IronPigs (46-35) play a "Day-Night" Doubleheader to conclude a three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox (47-36) at Coca-Cola Park... With a 14-1 loss last night, the Pigs have now dropped three consecutive games to the Paw Sox -- all at Coca-Cola Park -- and have fallen to 3-2 on this 12-game homestand. Still, the Pigs have gone 15-9 in their last 24 games to erase a 4.5-game deficit... The Red Sox -- Boston's top affiliate -- have still lost 11 of their last 13 games (including a nine-game losing streak June 18-26) since reaching their high-water mark of 45-25 on June 17.

In Game One, RHP B.J. Rosenberg (2-1, 1.67) will make a spot-start for LHV against RHP Tony Pena, Jr. (0-5, 5.86).

In Game Two, RHP Tyson Brummett (3-1, 3.25) will make a spot-start for LHV against RHP Billy Buckner (1-2, 9.26).

First-Pitch for Game One is at 12:05 p.m... First-Pitch for Game Two is at 6:35 p.m.... Separate tickets are required.

DOUBLE-DIPPERS:

This will be LHV's 2nd all-time "Day-Night" Doubleheader -- the only other came 7/3/09 vs. SYR (L, 4-0; L, 7-1)... This will be the Pigs' 4th DH of the season -- 3rd against PAW -- after splitting the first 3 DH (3-3): 4/7 @ PAW (a scheduled twinbill); 5/14 @ LOU; 6/2 vs. PAW... Last season, the Pigs managed just a 5-9 record in DH games -- getting swept in two... The Pigs have gone just 16-28 all-time in DH games with just 3 sweeps in 22 tries (6/11/08 vs. BUF; 7/18/09 vs. ROC; 9/4/09 vs. BUF) -- none in their last 13 DH.

HOWARD TO REHAB IN GAME TWO:

Phillies' 2006 N.L. MVP Ryan Howard, recovering from a left Achilles injury sustained in the final at-bat of last year's NLDS against St. Louis, is slated to continue his ML rehab with Pigs with 5 innings at 1B in Game Two tonight. Howard, 32, underwent surgery to repair his Achilles last October and recently began a rehab with Class-A Lakewood -- going 5-for-8 (.625) with 4 RBI and 3 BB in 3 G... Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehab appearances at Coca-Cola Park.
