Aberdeen, MD- Anthony Martinez drove in two runs and the Aberdeen IronBirds shutout the Lowell Spinners 6-0 in the opening game of this three-game series on Tuesday.

Martinez went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs on a single and a groundout. He extended his current hitting streak to six games and drove in two runs for the fifth time in the last six games.

Aberdeen starter Jon Leicester and three relievers combined for the third IronBirds shutout this season.

Leicester, on rehab from the Baltimore Orioles, made his second rehab start. Leicester threw 3 2/3 shutout innings with three hits, two walks and four strikeouts before being lifted in the fourth.

Mariotti (1-0), now in the rotation due to last week's promotion of Zach Clark, relieved Leicester with 4 1/3 shutout innings. He walked one and fanned three for his first win of his professional career.

Joe Esposito and Scott Mueller worked the final two innings and combined for five strikeouts.

The Aberdeen offense scored a run in each of the first four innings in support of its pitching staff.

Martinez gave Aberdeen a 1-0 lead in the first inning when his two-out single scored Matt Angle. Jordan Wolf added a soft single to shallow right to score Joe Nowicki from second and make it 2-0 in the second inning.

Martinez made it 3-0 when his groundout drove in Tyler Henson in the third inning.

Aberdeen scored its fourth run when Nowicki tripled to right to leadoff the fourth inning. Spinners right-fielder Luis Segovia dove for the ball but it skipped past him and onto the warning track. Ryan Adams followed with a double into the left-centerfield gap to drive in Nowicki and make it 4-0.

The IronBirds added two more runs in the eighth to make it 6-0.
