IronBirds rally to win in 10
August 9, 2005 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
On Tuesday night the IronBirds battled back and forth with the Spinners of Lowell in a game that was scheduled to go only seven innings. The IronBirds fell behind 6-5 in the top of the 10th, but answered with the game-tying and winning runs in the bottom half to win 7-6.
The IronBirds sent Radhames Liz to the mound to take down the Spinners. Unfortunately, Liz was only able to pitch four innings after giving up three runs while striking out five.
The IronBirds were able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the third inning when Ryan Steinbach drove in Bobby Andrews with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Spinners would come right back and put three runs on the board to quiet the IronBirds. The IronBirds would add one more run in the fifth inning when Nolan Reimold hit his ninth home run of the year to cut the deficit to 3-2.
During the sixth inning manager Andy Etchebarren would bring in Reid Hamblet (2-1) who would eventually earn the win as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two hits and striking out three.
The Spinners came right back and plated two more runs to go ahead 5-2. In the bottom of the seventh inning, which was scheduled to be the last inning played, the IronBirds strung together a pair of hits by Ryan Finan and Mark Fleisher scoring three runs to tie the game and send it to "extra" innings.
The Spinners would plate one run in the top of the 10th but the IronBirds battled back to tie the game as a triple by Rob Marconi scored Ryan Steinbach. With one out and runners on first and third, locally produced Jason Maxey would step to the plate to guide a single through the hole between first and second base to plate the winning run in Marconi.
On Wednesday the IronBirds travel to Auburn to take on the Doubleday's for a three game series. The IronBirds will return to Aberdeen on August 16th to take on Hudson Valley.
