Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
July 14, 2005 - A 21-inning scoreless drought came to an end in the bottom of the 1st inning, as the IronBirds (6-16) broke a 6-game losing streak by defeating first place Staten Island (15-6) 1-0 at Ripken Stadium on Thursday.
Zo Scott led off the game with an opposite field double off the top of the wall. Ryan Steinbach followed with a walk before rehabbing Keith Reed bounced an RBI single to left, bringing home the only run of the game.
The smallest of leads held up because of stellar Aberdeen pitching. Radhames Liz started and got the win, evening his record at 2-2 on the year. He went 5 scoreless innings, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk, mixing in 5 K's.
Jeff Montani threw 2 more scoreless innings, before Garrett Olson earned his first professional save, pitching the last 2 innings of shutout ball for the IronBirds. With the bases loaded and 1 out, Olson rang up a strike out and a fly out to right to end the game.
The series rubber game will take place Friday night at Ripken Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Bob McCrory takes the mound for Aberdeen.
