Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the New Jersey Cardinals 4-1 tonight at Skylands Park in Augusta New Jersey in the 2nd game of a three game series. The loss stopped the Cardinalsseason best 5-game win streak and dropped them a game under .500 at 11-12. With the win, the Renegades improved to 10-12. Hudson Valley starter Wade Davis (3-0) worked 6 1/3 strong innings to pick up the win, while Cardinals starter Mitchell Boggs (0-2) took the loss, despite setting the Cardinals season high in strikeouts with 8.

The Renegades struck first for an early 1-0 lead. After right fielder Edward Gross walked and advanced to second on a groundout, third baseman Michael Rainville followed with an RBI single that deflected off of Boggsglove allowing Gross to score from second. The Cardinals answered back in their half of the third to tie the score. Catcher Craig Newton led off with a smash that hooked inside the first base line and rolled into the right field corner for a triple. He easily scored one batter later when Chad Gabriel grounded out to second.

But the Renegades took the lead back for good in the top of the fourth with the help of a key Cardinals miscue. Hudson Valley loaded the bases with no outs, and after Rainville struck out, Boggs appeared to work out of trouble, but shortstop Tyler Greene was upended on a double play attempt and threw the ball wildly to first allowing two runs to score.

The Cardinals best scoring chance came in the bottom of the 7th when they loaded the bases with one out against Davis. But Hudson Valley reliever Christopher Mason came on to strike out pinch hitter Matt Wilkerson and second baseman Casey Rowlett to end the threat. Derek Feldkamp worked a scoreless ninth for his 5th save.

The teams are scheduled to finish their three-game set tomorrow, July 15th at 7:15. Fireworks sponsored by The New Jersey Herald will follow the conclusion of the game.
