Ironbirds beat Staten Island

Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The IronBirds (7-16) waited until the last games of a 6-game homestand to play their best ball. On Friday night, the âBirds defeated first place Staten Island (15-7) for the second time in as many nights, this time by the score of 6-1. The win gives Aberdeen a series victory, their first in the last 3 series.
Aberdeen jumped out to an immediate 2-0 lead, thanks to Nolan Reimold. The versatile slugger who has done it all for the âBirds early in 2005 continued to show his massive power when he crushed a 2-out 2-run home run to left center in the bottom of the first. The 2-out runs would be a theme for the IronBirds on Friday, as all 6 runs came home with 2 down.
Mark Fleisher added to the lead when he smoked an RBI double into the corner in right field in the bottom of the third. Reimold picked up his second RBI of the night by drawing a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth. He was followed by Ryan Finan, whose 2-run single over the second baseman's head extended his hitting streak to 5 games.
IronBirds pitching tied the Yankees up for the second night in a row. Bob McCrory went 5 innings, allowing only 2 hits and a run. McCrory struck out 5 and walked 2. David Hernandez made his IronBirds debut, and it was impressive. The 16th round pick in this year's draft threw a perfect 6th, striking out the side.
Reid Hamblet (2 IP) and Blake Owen (1 IP) combined to throw 3 more innings of scoreless baseball.
The IronBirds hit the road for 3 game series at both Tri-City and Vermont on the heels of consecutive wins. It will be their first jaunt outside of the McNamara Division this season.
