New Jersey Cardinals News Release
For the second time in 3 nights at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals shut out the Hudson Valley Renegades 1-0. The Cardinals took the series against the Renegades 2-1. The Cardinals climbed back to the .500 mark at 12-12 while the Renegades fell to 10-12. Trey Hearne picked up the victory for the Cardinals improving his record to 2-1, while Matt Cobb took the loss evening his record at 1-1. Cory Meacham pitched around 2 walks in the 9th inning to pick up his 1st save.
The Cardinals scored the only run of the game in the 4th. Tyler Greene led off the 4th hitting a ball to right center that was dropped by the center fielder, which allowed Greene to reach 2nd. With 1 out Greene stole 3rd and then scored on Adam Rodgers sacrifice fly to center. Carlos De La Cruz led the way for the Cardinals offense tonight picking up 2 of the 3 hits.
The Cardinals got another strong pitching performance from a starter as Mark McCormick allowed 1 hit and struck out 7 in 4 innings of work, in his home debut. The Cardinals relievers of Hearne, Adam Daniels, Michael Gross and Meacham finished off the shutout working the final 5 innings, combining for 7 strikeouts.
The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow evening at Skylands as they begin a 3 game set against the Oneonta Tigers at 5:00. Blake Hawksworth (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will be on the mound for the Cardinals. Tomorrow night the first 1,000 will receive a 6 pack cooler courtesy of Service Electric TV. Tomorrow night is will be the first of two Boy Scout Sleepovers this season, which takes place after the game. Tomorrow night is also post game catch on the field.
