Iowa Wolves Drop First AT&T Winter Showcase Game

LAS VEGAS - The Iowa Wolves dropped its first game of the 2021 NBA G League AT&T Winter Showcase to the Capital City Go-Go on Monday night at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Capital City (7-6) used a big second quarter against Iowa (6-7) in a 106-89 victory.

The Wolves were led by Vincent Edwards who scored a game-high 26 points, which included knocking down a season-high five three-pointers. Edwards stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block. Brandon Sampson added 21 points off the bench and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Brian Bowen II had eight points and 12 rebounds.

Iowa raced out to a 23-16 lead in the opening quarter after Canyon Barry's three-pointer. The Wolves held their last lead of the game at 27-25 after Sampson's free throw with 57.4 left in the first. Jaime Echenique though knocked down a three with 25 seconds left that gave the Go-Go the lead for good.

Capital City built a big lead in the second quarter as Iowa scored just six points and didn't score the final 5:43 of the quarter as the Go-Go led 54-33 at halftime. Capital City led by 26 in the third quarter, but Iowa battled back to cut that deficit in half, 78-65, at the end of third.

The Go-Go started the fourth quarter with four-straight points and answered each time the Wolves scored to keep their lead in the double digits the rest of the way.

Isaiah Todd paced Capital City with 25 points helped by seven three-pointers. Jordan Schakel was next with 18 points.

Iowa was without two-way forward Nathan Knight and two-way guard McKinley Wright IV, who earlier in the day were transferred to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Iowa closes the winter showcase on Wednesday, Dec. 22 against the Greensboro Swarm at 2 p.m. CT on NBA TV.
