Iowa Wild Signs Forward Matt Carey to AHL Contract

DES MOINES, IA -The Iowa Wild on Monday announced the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed forward Matt Carey to an AHL Standard Player Contract (SPC) for the 2015-16 season.
Carey, 23 (2/28/92), joins the Wild after spending the 2014-15 season with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. The rookie forward scored ten goals and added 11 assists for 21 points in 67 games played. He enjoyed success against Iowa last year, scoring two goals and adding three assists for five points in six games versus the Wild. The Hamilton, ON native made his NHL debut for the Chicago Blackhawks on March 28, 2014 against the Ottawa Senators. Carey scored his first NHL goal in his second NHL game, beating Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators.
The undrafted free agent turned pro after playing one season at St. Lawrence University in 2013-14. He was second on the team in points. Carey tied for the team lead in goals with 18 and added 19 assists for 37 points in 38 games played. The second-year forward has played in 118 combined OJHL games for Hamilton, Toronto and Burlington from 2009-12. In all, the 6-foot, 180-pounder scored 64 times and added 101 assists for 166 points.
Iowa begins its third season in the AHL this fall. The team will host Opening Night on Saturday, Oct. 10. The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team's 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena.
