Iowa Barnstormers News Release
DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (4-6) are on the road this week as they face the Cedar Rapids Titans (8-4). The game kicks off on Saturday, May 21 at 7:05 p.m. CDT at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Fans will be able to tune in to the game by watching live on IFLLive.tv, listening on WHO Radio 1040 or watching locally on Mediacom MC22.
The Barnstormers enjoyed a bye week last week after suffering a defeat at the hands of the Colorado Crush on May 7. Turnovers and penalties doomed the Barnstormers as they fell to Colorado, 93-56. Although the game ended in a loss for the Barnstormers there is still time for a playoff push on the shoulders of young talent. Iowa quarterback Brion Carnes continues to improve as a passer completing 65% of his passes for 234 yards against the Crush. On the defensive side of the ball rookie Chayz Holt has emerged as a top IFL defensive back. Since stepping in during week six, Holt has recorded 22.5 tackles, and has vaulted to third on the team in total tackles.
The Titans won their third straight game last Friday night taking down the Green Bay Blizzard on the road, 36-12. The tone of the game was set in the first quarter when the only score came via Titan kicker Nicholas Belcher on a 19 yard field goal attempt. Bursts of offense by the Titans in the second and fourth quarters were enough to seal their victory. The Titans defense flexed their muscles once again this time locking down the passing game of the Blizzard holding quarterback Matt Behrendt to 4 of 21 on pass attempts and just 60 yards.
It will be a matchup of opposites when the Barnstormers and Titans meet on Friday night. The Barnstormers are currently first in the league in offense totaling 2852 yards and averaging 285.2 yards per game. Iowa is a pass first offense leading the league in passing yards with 2248 yards and are third in the league with 43 passing touchdowns. The Titans on the other hand are the top defense in the league only giving up 193.6 yards per game while specializing in quarterback pressure leading the league with 31 sacks this season.
The Barnstormers' playoff hopes are still alive currently sitting at fourth in the United Conference. The next six weeks for the Barnstormers will be spent playing the three teams that top the United Conference as they face Cedar Rapids three times, Sioux Falls twice and the Wichita Falls Nighthawks for the second time this season.
There is still time to order single game or partial season tickets. Fans can order tickets by calling the Barnstormers at 515-633-2255 or by stopping by the Wells Fargo Arena Box Office. Tickets are also available online at www.theiowabarnstormers.com.
