Iowa Executes Late Comeback

Iowa Cubs News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Iowa Cubs (22-33) trailed 0-2 heading into the ninth, but battled for a 6-2 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (30-25) in 10 innings, Sunday at Security Service Field.

Through eight, the game was a sharp contrast from the 31 hits and 25 runs scored last night as Colorado Springs had the game's only two runs and the two teams had combined for just 10 hits. Iowa was down to its final two outs in the ninth when a two-RBI double from Bijan Rademacher not only broke the shutout, but forced extras as it knotted the game 2-2.

Iowa's extra-inning runner on second was quickly erased on a Victor Caratini fielder's choice, but Iowa didn't falter as a Taylor Davis walk and a Jacob Hannemann single loaded the bases with one out. Chesny Young came through with an RBI single and Rademacher crushed his second clutch hit of the game, batting in two with a base hit. Mike Freeman capped the four-run inning with an RBI bunt-single as the I-Cubs punctuated a comeback victory.

Making a spot-start for Iowa, Zach Hedges answered the call, spinning 5.0 frames and allowing two runs. He gave up four hits, walked none and fanned three. The Sky Sox broke the scoreless game in the fourth as a Keon Broxton leadoff single led to a run on an error and a ground out. Andres Blanco claimed the Sky Sox other run with a solo home run.

Iowa's bullpen picked up 5.0 innings as Rob Zastryzny, Dillon Maples, Brad Markey and Alberto Baldonado allowed just four base runners and struck out six between them. Markey got the win for his first Triple-A victory.

Iowa takes tomorrow off before returning to Principal Park for a seven-game set against Albuquerque and El Paso. The homestand features Kids Night Tuesday and Taylor Davis Bobblehead Night Thursday. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
