Bobby Scales' three-hit night propelled the Iowa Cubs over the Albuquerque Isotopes 8-4 Monday night at Principal Park.

Scales, a double shy of the cycle, singled and tripled in his first two at bats before hitting a solo homer in the eighth inning.

Iowa took an early 1-0 lead but the Isotopes scored two runs in their half of the first inning to put them on top, 2-1. However the Cubs answered back in the second inning, as Andres Torres, Scales, Andres Blanco and Sam Fuld scored to take a 5-2 lead.

With the Cubs leading 7-2 in the fourth inning, Isotopes' relief pitcher Scott Nestor took a line drive off the bat of Luis Figueroa that ricochet off the back of his head before shortstop Chris Barnwell caught the ball for the out.

Albuquerque posted two more runs in the fifth, but it was not enough.

Iowa's Andres Blanco added two hits in the winning effort.

Mark Holliman got a no decision in his triple-A debut, while Geoff Jones (1-1) picked up the win for Iowa. Eulogio De La Cruz (0-1) took the loss for Albuquerque.
