Introducing Nashville SC's First PRIMEBLUE Jersey Made with Parley Ocean Plastic
Published on May 20, 2021 under Major League Soccer (MLS)
Nashville SC News Release
For the first time in its Major League Soccer history, Nashville SC will participate in the league's annual MLS WORKS Greener Goals initiative by wearing adidas PRIMEBLUE Jerseys made with Parley Ocean Plastic for its match on Saturday, May 29 at Atlanta United FC.
The club also unveiled several other exclusive items to support the initiative, including a PRIMEBLUE Jacket made with Parley Ocean Plastic, a special edition scarf and patch. All of the items in this collection are available now for fans to purchase. Limited quantities are available via Nashville SC Mobile Shop for pickup, and MLSStore.com for shipping.
PRIMEBLUE is a high-performance yarn made with 50% Parley Ocean Plastic-upcycled plastic waste intercepted on shorelines and coastal areas, preventing it from polluting our oceans. The jersey's design and colors draw inspiration from the hidden creatures of the seas.
The jersey, along with the PRIMEBLUE Jacket made with Parley Ocean Plastic, are one of the many ways the league raises awareness for environmental issues and helps to create sustainable communities as part of MLS WORKS' year-long Greener Goals initiative.
"I love the whole concept," said Nashville SC goalkeeper Joe Willis. "Plastics in our ocean is a huge issue and a huge contributor to pollution in our world. The fact that adidas is taking that step to be a part of the solution and remove these plastics and repurpose them in a way that gets another use out of them, I think it's an unbelievable initiative."
Nashville SC is also making an impact and spreading environmental stewardship locally. The special edition scarf features layered tones of blue inspired by the many waterways across Tennessee, as well as images of rolling mountains inspired by the natural awe and beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains.
In addition, proceeds from the sale of its special edition patch will benefit the Cumberland River Compact, a non-profit organization who focuses on clean water initiatives. Through education and outreach, they empower people to be impactful stewards of their watershed, and constructively partners with governmental and planning agencies.
"In Tennessee, we love when our team wins and we love when our beautiful streams and rivers win, and we're getting both here," said Jed Grubbs from the Cumberland River Compact. "It's so important to protect and restore our aquatic ecosystems. We live within one of the most biodiverse regions in the continent. In Tennessee, we have more species of freshwater fish than in any other state. We should act like this matters, because it matters. This biodiversity cleans our water and air, it mitigates flooding and climate change, it provides us with food and medicine as well as inspiration, enjoyment and a sense of belonging."
As a part of this initiative, MLS and Twitter will reimagine the traditional soccer post-game jersey swap by honoring fans after every MLS match played on the weekend of May 29. The jersey swap, which will be decided virtually on Twitter, will highlight fans making a positive impact in the community and will feature the adidas PRIMEBLUE Jerseys made with Parley Ocean Plastic.
Beginning today, Thursday, May 20, through Friday, May 28, fans can nominate other fans through Twitter using hashtag #JerseySwapEntry, tagging their club, and including a brief description of why the person should be recognized. Winning fans will be featured in a special way on Twitter and will receive a game-worn jersey.
Take a look at all the gear in this collection, including the PRIMEBLUE Jersey made with Parley Ocean Plastic that will be worn for our match in Atlanta on May 29. A limited amount of PRIMEBLUE apparel made with Parley Ocean Plastic is available now through our official retailer, Fanatics. Fans can purchase at NashvilleSCMobileShop.com to preorder and pick-up beginning May 23. Fans can purchase at MLSStore.com to ship their home.
