(Kannapolis, NC) – Intimidators split the double-header with the Shorebirds on Tuesday night winning the first game 2-1 behind a solid pitching performance by Brandon McCarthy before dropping the night cap 5-4 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis.

McCarthy tossed a complete game, three-hitter, allowing just one run. The only blemish was a lead off, solo home run by Delmarva's Matt Houston in the top of the third inning. McCarthy then retired 13 Shorebird batters in-a-row before Jarod Rine's single in the top of the seventh inning. The Intimidators starter walked three and struck out six.

Kannapolis took the lead in the second inning on Chris Young's two-out double scoring Micah Schnurstein. In the fourth inning, Schnurstein scored the winning run with the bases loaded after Shorebirds starter Fredy Deza hit Antoin Gray.

In the second game, it was Delmarva which scored first when Nate Spears came home in the first inning on Juan Guiterrez's RBI single. Spears tripled in the third inning and scored on another Guiterrez single lifting the ‘Birds 2-0.

The Intimidators pulled within a run, 2-1, in the bottom half of the inning with Charlie Lisk's RBI single scoring Tom Brice.

The Shorebirds increased their lead with a run in the sixth off Intimidators reliever Michael Moat and added two runs, both unearned in the seventh off Todd Deininger to go ahead, 5-1.

However, the Intimidators would not roll over. Trailing four runs in the final frame, David Cook hit an opposite field, solo home run just inside the right field foul pole with one out. Delmarva reliever Brandon Spillers walked the next three batters faced after giving up the home run to load the bases. Antoin Gray singled driving in Chris Young and Seth Morris, pinch running for Clint King scored on a fielder's choice ground out to the shortstop by Robert Valido.

Rafael Flores took the loss in his Intimidators debut allowing two runs and three hits in three innings of work. The winning pitcher was Mike Patitucci who tossed two scoreless innings giving up just a pair of hits. Kannapolis won two-out-of-three games in the series.

The Intimidators host the Lake County Captains Wednesday through Friday night. First pitch for all three games is 7:05. For more information, or to order tickets, call the Intimidators at 704-932-3267.
